Alba Irollo
Dr Alba Irollo is in charge of Europeana Research at the Europeana Foundation (Europeana Foundation), The Hague, which oversees Europeana, the European Commission’s initiative for Digital Cultural Heritage. Europeana Research's area embraces the interconnections between Digital Cultural Heritage and the so-called Digital Humanities. In particular, Dr Irollo oversees research projects, partnerships and collaborations with universities, research institutions and infrastructures, as well as cultural heritage institutions engaged in improving their digital collections for research purposes. She represents Europeana at DARIAH and LIBER. She supervises the Europeana Research Grants Programme and together with the board chair, coordinates the activity of the Europeana Research Advisory Board. She also leads the Europeana Research Community. Before joining the EF, she spent a period of time at the European Commission itself in Brussels. In the Cabinet of the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, she gained wide-ranging experience in the field of cultural policy. Inter alia, she worked on the preparatory phase of the European Year of Cultural Heritage (2018). She holds a PhD in History of Art and, besides being busy with cultural policy, is an active researcher in the fields of History of Collecting and Heritage/Museum Studies.
