Anela Ilijaš

Anela Ilijaš

Anela Ilijaš is a Croatian researcher and university lecturer at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in South Korea. She holds a PhD and an MA in East Asian Studies from Yeungnam University, South Korea, and a BA in Japanese Language and Culture from Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, Croatia.

Her interdisciplinary research lies at the intersection of translation studies, comparative literature, and East Asian studies, with a particular interest in literary translation, intercultural exchange, and the application of digital tools and methodologies to humanities research. Her multilingual and transnational academic background has shaped her scholarly approach: while studying in Croatia, Japan, and South Korea, she gained extensive experience working as a translator and interpreter at international events, an experience that subsequently developed into a sustained academic interest in translation and cross-cultural literary communication. She has published in international academic journals and presented her research at more than 13 international conferences across Europe and Asia. Her academic career and research have been supported by prestigious Korean government scholarship programmes, including the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS), awarded by the National Institute for International Education, and the Brain Korea 21 Scholarship, awarded through the National Research Foundation of Korea, as well as the JASSO Scholarship from the Japan Student Services Organization.
