Sue Ball
Sue Ball is practitioner/researcher who uses collaborative working methods to strengthen value systems rooted in culture, place and community that foster interdisciplinary learning and practice. This is borne out through a portfolio of curated “non-object” based public art works with international artists that investigates the acoustic and multi-sensory design of the city and listener sensibilities (2003-13).
Other interdisciplinary research and learning environments include “The Making of Place” with the University of Leeds and Yorkshire Sculpture Park (2011) funded by Arts Council England, and “Ways of Hearing”, a participative research programme in urban acoustics with thirty-six interdisciplinary practitioners, University College London, national agency Sound and Music, Arup Engineering and design publication Blueprint (2013-2014).
Sue has worked extensively with research institutions and universities and in the role of AHRC Community Co-investigator. Her interests lie in developing co-designed processes to facilitate resilience and place-based solutions, conceptualized and adopted as “Slow Architecture” methodology in UK cities with national agency Canal and Rivers Trust.
Sue was awarded a scholarship in 2024 by AHRC White Rose College of the Arts and Humanities for a research PhD at the University of Leeds investigating the archival logics of sound and space in partnership with Henry Moore Institute.
